Costafiore Locality
Details
The village of Costafiore is perched above the town of Muccia and, for this reason, played an important role in the area’s defense system during the Middle Ages, around the 1300s. In case of sightings, the inhabitants would raise the alarm by lighting a brazier on a tower, which is still inhabited today. The village also served as a stronghold in case of invasion.
Costafiore is home to the Church of San Nicolò and the Church of Madonna di Loreto.
A deeply rooted tradition in the village is the celebration of the Holy Virgin, known as the “Feste Triennali,” held every three years. In addition to its religious significance, the festival is an important social gathering featuring card tournaments, lotteries, and communal celebrations.
Tourism Development and Future Projects
The area is benefiting from tourism development initiatives as part of the post-2016 earthquake reconstruction. A new camper area with 16 pitches is being created near the center of Muccia, along the valley extending to the hamlet of Costafiore. This project, valued at €200,000 and approved by the Special Reconstruction Office, represents a significant investment aimed at making the territory more attractive to tourists.
