Famiglia Zaccarini Bonelli

The building can only be visited from the outside.

Villa La Maddalena was built in the first half of the 17th century by Cardinal Angelo Giori, originally from Capodacqua di Pieve Torina and Master of the Apostolic Chamber during the pontificate of Pope Barberini (Urban VIII). The connection between the Cardinal and the Pope is also evidenced by the recurring presence of the papal coat of arms featuring three bees throughout the villa.

The complex is divided into two courtyards: one characterized by rural structures (farmhouses, stables, cellars, oven, and storage buildings) and a main courtyard, still reserved for the owners today. Incorporated within the complex is the Church of Santa Maria in Via.

The chapel is part of the 17th-century architectural complex of Villa La Maddalena, once the residence of Cardinal Angelo Giori, secretary to Pope Urban VIII Barberini. The Cardinal had also built the Church of Santa Maria in Via in Camerino, to which he was very devoted, and in his honor he dedicated the precious and stunning chapel within his villa.

Currently, the villa can only be visited from the outside, as it is privately owned by the Zaccarini Bonelli family, while the church is open during the celebration of Holy Mass.
